Bidding process open for 2017/18 EQC Qualifier

Next season will see the fourth opportunity for German teams to qualify for the European Quidditch Cup. The qualification tournament for these spots is taking place in late fall 2017. Teams and clubs interested in hosting the tournament can submit their bid to DQB until May 21, 2017.

Each year, Germany sends its best teams to compete for the European championship. The qualifier for next season’s European Quidditch Cup 2018 is held on a weekend in between October 28/29, 2017 and December 2/3, 2017.

The number of participating teams competing for EQC spots in the 2017/18 season will depend on the tournament venue’s capacity. Teams, clubs and municipalities interested in hosting the qualification tournament can submit a bid for a 16, 24 or 32 team tournament (corresponding to approximately 300, 450 or 600 players). The winning bid will primarily be chosen based on the quality of its tournament venue, the local facilities and the accommodation options for teams and volunteers.

In the case of a restriction on the number of participating teams, spots will be allocated based on the rankings of German Cup 2017 and German Winter Games 2017. Details on the spot allocation can be found here (German document).

Extensive information on bids to host the EQC qualification tournament can be found in the Bidding Manual (German document). Bids are to be submitted to the Gameplay Department (gameplay[at] no later than May 21, 2017. For the first time it is also possible for teams to contact DQB with details on a promising tournament venue in order to get additional support in compiling the complete bid. Further information and the corresponding form can be found in the Bidding Manual; contact with DQB has to be made by mid-April.
